Anipal Photo Hunt #12: All Souls' Day

In many traditions, November 1st is considered All Saints' Day, which is followed by All Souls' Day on November 2nd. Latin America celebrates All Souls' Day as Dia de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead. Wikipedia has a great page about it here

This is not a morbid affair, not sad, not scary. It is a celebration of those who have gone on ahead. Join us this week in celebrating our loved ones who've gone over the Rainbow Bridge.

Some of you knew my wonderful girl cat, Wynnie Princess Kitten Girl. She went to the Rainbow Bridge very unexpectedly on June 10, 2010. She was a beautiful, funny, skitter lynx point Siamese with deep blue eyes.

She always slept with Mom, who often woke up in the morning with Wynnie's butt pressed against her head, and she sat on Dad's piano keys and watched Mom blog and Tweet late every night.

She loved caramels, and would eat through the plastic wrappers on bread, leaving it to dry out, and she made the most beautiful little kitty chirpy trill noise when she was happy - especially when she was being fed.

This was how we celebrated her 40th day.
Some Buddhists believe that is when the soul reincarnates.
It was very healing for us.

Tomorrow we're lighting a candle for Wynnie, setting out some milk, caramel, and a bit of steak, and remembering all the fun we had with her and what a good, loving kitty she was.

  2. What a wonderful tribute to Wynnie. I'm not buddhist, but I do believe reincarnation does happen. I'll be joining the photo hunt but not until I figure out how to take a hard copy of a picture and scan it into the computer. he he- another learning experience.
